“My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion

No-one involved in this song seemed to have wanted to do it—James Horner didn’t want to adapt his instrumental theme into a song, Celine Dion didn’t want to record it when she first heard it, and James Cameron, who wanted a hit pop song to promote his movie, spent the entire process second-guessing himself for being ‘too commercial’. The resulting song is certainly cheesy and melodramatic, but let’s remember that it’s still based on a James Horner theme, so the melody is strong, and that Celine Dion was always a fabulous vocalist (and has certainly sung many worse songs that this, despite its reputation as her low point).

Verdict: Pretty good, actually (and certainly not nearly as bad as it’s generally made out to be).
