“Making Love Out of Nothing At All” by Air Supply

It seems almost unfair that this simpering excuse for a soft rock band managed to get one memorable hit song simply because legendary rock songwriter Jim Steinman decided to lavish one of his best songs on this embarrassing wimp-rock duo. This song is something of a prototype for the later Steinman-penned Meat Loaf hit “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)”…indeed, by all accounts this song was originally intended for Meat Loaf himself, and only got given to Air Supply because Steinman’s first choice had a scheduling conflict. And significantly, the song’s thrilling Arena-Rock sound bears absolutely no resemblance to the desperately wimpy Easy Listening ballads the pair usually sang. This wasn’t even their biggest hit at the time, but nowadays it’s the only one of their songs anyone remembers, and with good reason.

Verdict: Good, but Air Supply still suck.
